St Joseph’s Church, Evington, Leicester.

St. Joseph’s Church, Evington.

A parish party visited the pilgrimage town of Lourdes in France for six days in late September, joining in the reciting of the Rosary and Torchlight Procession every evening and the prayer of the thousands of pilgrims gathered.  Father Daley conducted our party on a guided tour of the site culminating at the Grotto which is an area where silence is always observed, the silence of hundreds of people at prayer.  The group also visited the baths and the places in the town associated with St Bernadette.  Some of the group were privileged to join the choir that sang during the International Mass in the underground Basilica, an impressive building which holds 15,000 people, for a beautiful and moving celebration.

On September 6th parishioners, Christina and David, completed their 100 mile, tandem cycle ride round Leicestershire.  They actually did 108 miles and were on the road for 13 hours, raising over £500 for Masaya Link group and Salt of the Earth, supporting SCAD in South India, which they had visited in January this year.  Another parishioner, Bob Howell, has been doing his bit for local charity LOROS, by running the Leicester half-marathon on Sunday 25th October.  This was Bob’s 8th successive half-marathon supporting LOROS.  Last year he raised over £3,500 (£750 being St Joseph’s contribution) and this year he looks like increasing his target.

The Watermead Shop (all profits are shared with charities), stocking religious Christmas cards, cribs, nativity scenes, seasonal and religious music CDs, books and various gifts is open as usual on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10.30 – 3.30pm, Saturday 5.00 – 6.00pm and Sunday 11.45 – 12.15pm (entrance is via our Uppingham Road car park).  Why not do some last minute Christmas shopping locally and peacefully.

All of St Joseph’s Christmas services are advertised on our website at but of particular note are our Christmas Eve celebrations which start with 6.00pm Mass for Children (Traditional) then at 9.30pm  Carols followed by (Midnight) Mass at 10.00pm.
